Juanita Bailey was driving on KY-15 south on Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2013 when she reportedly ran out of gas. According to police, there is no shoulder on this section of road, and Ms. Bailey pulled over on the far right lane and turned on her hazard lights. It is there that police report the car was hit from behind by another vehicle.
Juanita Bailey and her passenger, 21-year-old Lola Bailey, were taken to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson for treatment of their injuries. It was there that 47-year-old Juanita was pronounced dead. Lola was treated and released from the hospital, and the driver of the car who hit them was not reported to be injured.
Ms. Bailey worked as a school librarian at Rogers Elementary in Wolfe County for the past sixteen years. Superintendent Kenny Bell says that she will be greatly missed by the students and staff at Rogers Elementary and describes her loss this way: “It really left everybody with a heavy heart. We’re all in shock. Juanita is just such a terrific lady and such a terrific person to work with our children. It’s just such a devastating loss for Rogers Elementary, our school district, and our community.”
Juanita Bailey was also survived by her loving family and friends, including her husband, her father, two sons, a brother, and two sisters. She was predeceased by her mother.
